Us

Buckeye Solar Racing is one of the newest MotorSports teams to join Ohio State! In April 2021, a group of 10 Engineering students got together with the idea of starting a solar car team at Ohio State. We have now grown to over 50 members on our team across many majors in and outside of engineering. Building a solar car is no easy task. These are the teams that will make that goal possible...

The Business & Media Team is responsible for fundraising and improving the public presence of the team. Building a solar car is an expensive undertaking. On the Business end, members work to build relationships with sponsors and other donors to raise the needed funds. On the Media side, members advance the social media presence of BSR, coordinate outreach events, and build hype around the solar car team. This team is ideal for students interested in business development, marketing, communications, media production, graphic design, and more!


The Structural Team is responsible for the designing, manufacturing, testing, and optimization of all mechanical systems including the chassis, suspension, steering system, brakes and more. Our members gain a unique hands-on experience in building the vehicle frame using different composite materials and aluminum grades. Additionally, members use CAD and FEA to design and optimize vehicle components to allow for safe and efficient travel.


The Electrical Team is responsible for both developing the powertrain of the vehicle and all embedded systems software needed to communicate with the driver and the electrical components. On the power side, members work to fabricate and optimize the solar array, battery pack, battery protection, and motor systems. On the embedded systems side, members optimize the vehicle's software abilities to develop driver controls, improve communications with the driver, and gather telemetry from the vehicle for post-race data analysis.


The Aerodynamic Team is responsible for the design, fabrication, and optimization of the vehicles aero-shell and canopy. In order to allow for the fastest, most aerodynamic vehicle possible, members leverage computation fluid dynamics simulation and wind tunnel testing to reduce lift and drag coefficients. Members gain a hands-on experience in using carbon fiber materials to construct the vehicle's body.
